Every beautiful piece of embroidery begins with a single stitch.
When the members of Threads of Lore first came together, they shared a passion for history, heritage and creativity. While some members brought years of embroidery experience, others were eager to develop new skills and embrace the challenge of creating something truly special.
As work began on The Journey of the River Boyne in Threads, the group quickly realised that every image would require careful thought, practice and patience. Before a design is embroidered onto a tapestry panel, different stitches, threads and techniques are tested to find the best way to capture each detail.
Friday mornings in Dunshaughlin Library have become much more than embroidery sessions. They are opportunities to learn from one another, exchange ideas, solve challenges together and continue developing the traditional skills that make each panel so unique.
There is no rush. Every stitch is carefully considered, with members sharing their knowledge and encouraging one another as each section gradually takes shape. It is this collaborative spirit that makes Threads of Lore so special.
The process is one of continuous learning. New techniques are discovered, different textures are explored and confidence grows with every completed piece. Along the way, friendships have flourished, creating a welcoming and supportive environment where everyone contributes to the finished artwork.
The beauty of Threads of Lore lies not only in the finished tapestry but also in the journey behind it. Every panel reflects countless hours of learning, practice and teamwork, preserving both Ireland’s heritage and the traditional craft of embroidery for future generations.
As the tapestry continues to grow, so too do the skills of the remarkable women creating it, proving that it is never too late to learn something new and become part of a shared creative journey.
