About Us

Our Story

Threads of Lore was established in 2022 with a simple but ambitious vision: to preserve Ireland’s stories through embroidery. Inspired by the Ross Tapestry and the rich history of County Meath, founder Fiona McMahon imagined creating a tapestry that would celebrate the River Boyne and the remarkable stories woven throughout its landscape. What began as an idea soon grew into a thriving community project, bringing together volunteers, artists, historians and craftspeople who now meet every Friday morning in Dunshaughlin Library. Today, Threads of Lore continues to grow, creating textile artworks that celebrate Ireland’s heritage while preserving the ancient craft of embroidery.

Our Mission

Our mission is to preserve and promote Ireland’s rich history, mythology, folklore and cultural heritage through collaborative textile art.
By combining historical research, artistic design and traditional embroidery, we create lasting public artworks that educate, inspire and bring communities together while ensuring valuable heritage skills are passed on to future generations.

How We Work

Every Threads of Lore project begins with research. Historical sources, folklore, archaeology and local knowledge are carefully studied before artists develop original designs inspired by the chosen subject. These designs are transferred onto fabric before members begin the intricate embroidery process, experimenting with stitches, colours and textures to achieve the most authentic result. Each completed artwork represents hundreds of hours of planning, creativity and craftsmanship.
