Threads of Lore

National Heritage Week celebrates Ireland’s cultural, built and natural heritage. It brings together volunteers, community groups and heritage enthusiasts to share their experience, knowledge, culture and practices.

As part of this year’s celebrations, Threads of Lore is inviting members of the public to take part in the creation of a unique community Heritage Week Tapestry. This special workshop offers participants the opportunity to contribute their own stitching to a collaborative piece that will become part of the Threads of Lore story.

The tapestry reflects the journey of the River Boyne, which rises in Carbury, Co. Kildare, flows through Co. Meath and reaches the sea in Mornington, Co. Louth. While we are particularly encouraging stitchers from these three counties to get involved, everyone is welcome to participate, regardless of where they are from.

Designed for stitchers of all ages and abilities, the workshop welcomes complete beginners as well as experienced embroiderers. Prior to the event, interested participants can contact us to learn more about what is involved and to practise their stitching if they wish.

Members of Threads of Lore will be on hand throughout the workshop to provide guidance and support, ensuring everyone can take part and contribute to this unique community project.

No experience is necessary and all equipment will be supplied.

Following the workshop, members of Threads of Lore will bring all the individual contributions together to create the finished tapestry.

The names of all participants will be recorded for posterity, and the completed tapestry will be used in promotional events for the larger Boyne in Threads tapestry project.
