It’s back to school for quite a few members of the Threads of Lore this year.
Always keen to expand their stitch knowledge base, 8 members of Threads of Lore enrolled in the Silk Shading Embroidery Course in Parnell Square, Dublin. The course is run by Alice from beAlice. Silk shading (also called thread painting or needle painting) is a hand embroidery technique which creates smooth, painterly transitions using stranded embroidery thread. It allows embroiders to create designs that have an appearance closer to a painting than to a piece of embroidery. This is an intensive four week course which all participants attend at their own expense. The importance of upskilling and learning of new techniques contributes a great richness to the group as members share their skills with others fostering teamwork, confidence and friendships. Every new stitch gives us another way to be creative, improve our skills and add variety and character to our projects.
8 of the group at this class are from Threads of Lore Carol Dempsey, Carol Gogan, Carol Commons, Susan Horgan , Angie Robinson, Ann Mc Keever, Carol Uí Fhearghail, Suzie Farrell and 2 other attendees at the course on ‘first day at school.

Susan Horgan has officially been classified as teacher’s pet as she gets special one to one attention!!

Máire White decided to go back to basics and to do a beginners course rather than moving to the more complex Silk Shading Course. This is an opportunity for her to revisit essential stitches, learn good techniques and perhaps discover new approaches to familiar skills before moving onto more complex work.
